*CALL FOR PARTICIPATION*

Dear Colleagues,

It is a great pleasure to invite your participation in our newly formed *IEEE
SA P7007 - Ontological Standard for Ethically Driven Robotics and
Automation Systems Working Group*(1) sponsored by IEEE Standards
Association and IEEE Robotics and Automation Society. This group arose from
the fruitful discussions conducted in *The IEEE Global Initiative for
Ethical Considerations in Artificial Intelligence and Autonomous Systems*(2)
which aims to establish a global conversation among experts and leaders
from academia, science, government and corporate sector about how to
prioritize ethical considerations in the design and development of
autonomous and intelligent systems.

*Why to get involved?*

Ethics is the new frontier for the development of products, systems and
services in next decades. Considering Ethics during the design of Robotics
and Automation Systems is an urgent task. Day by day, new machines and
systems are being developed to help and assist humans in a myriad of
activities. To guarantee their acceptability and alignment with what
stakeholders expect, in terms of benefits and increase of human well-being,
it is essential to consider applied ethics in the broadest sense by
cross-pollinating expertise from domains that include (but are not limited
to) Philosophy, Psychology, Law and Engineering.

IEEE P7007 WG aims to create a standard with a set of formal definitions to
enable the development of Robotics and Automation Systems in accordance
with worldwide Ethics and Moral theories, with a particular emphasis on
aligning the ethics and engineering communities to understand how to
pragmatically design and implement these systems in unison. Our intention
is that the P7007 Standard guide practitioners in multiple scenarios. For
instance, it could provide a *software framework* for the development of
ethically-driven Robotics and Automation Systems; or be used as a reference
*thesaurus* to enable clear and precise communication among members from
different communities.

*How to get involved*
