However, most of them tend to constrain participation to a specific application domain. The FREEBOTS competition aims at challenging the international community of R&D to present their latest research results in the form of an *open* technical presentation and public demonstrations. Participation must involve real, terrestrial, airborne or aquatic robots - mobile or not, multiple or single. Teams are assessed by a panel of experts in the field of robotics with regards to technical and scientific achievement, potential application of demonstrated robots, quality and success of the presentation and its impact on the general public. FREEBOTS takes place on a regular basis since 2011 as a League of the Portuguese Robotics Open. The current official rules of this League, as well as the track record of previous events, can be found in the competition web page: http://www.isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/freebots The next competition will take place in the Robotica-2017, April 26-30, in the beautiful city of Coimbra, Portugal. URL: http://robotica2017.isr.uc.pt/index.php/en/ . You can register your team in the FREEBOTS league at https://goo.gl/forms/7WAMwMNFoWH3Nlif1. The event has had an enormous growth since the 1st edition, both in the number of teams, participants and visitors and also includes an international IEEE conference where national an international researchers present their latest work in the field of Robotics (http://icarsc2017.isr.uc.pt/). The conference has been an IEEE co-sponsored event for a long time and its proceedings have been indexed in *IEEExplore* and in Scopus. Moreover, authors of the best works presented at ICARSC will be invited to submit extended versions of their work to a special issue to be published by *Robotics and Autonomous Systems* journal from Elsevier and to regular editions of *Industrial Robot: An International Journal* and *Sensor Review* from Emerald. The 17th edition of the Portuguese Robotics Open will be held in Coimbra, Portugal, on April 26-30, 2017. The University of Coimbra (UC), founded in 1290, was the first Portuguese university, and one of the oldest in the world (http://www.uc.pt/en). Nowadays, UC maintains a unique mix of tradition, contemporaneity and innovation that led to its recognition as a world heritage site by UNESCO since 2013. Coimbra is located at the center of Portugal, about 200km north of Lisbon and 100km south of Oporto, the closest cities with international airports. Coimbra can be easily reached by train, coach or car from these airports. The Portuguese Robotics Open is currently an initiative of Portuguese Society of Robotics. Hoping to see you at Portuguese Robotics Open!
