== Important! ==
Submission deadline: February 12, 2018.
The 18th IEEE International Conference on Autonomous Robot Systems
And Competitions (ICARSC 2018) gathers participants from academia and
industry working in the field of autonomous robotics and related areas.
It is organized within the 18th international Portugal Robotics Open,
a RoboCup-sponsored local event.
The conference will be held on April 25-27, 2018,
at the Town Hall of Torres Vedras, Portugal, just a walking distance
from EXPOTORRES, where the Robotics Open will take place.
Conference content will be submitted for inclusion into IEEE Xplore
as well as other Abstracting and Indexing (A&I) databases.
Selected extended papers will be published in a special issue of a prestigious
journal, indexed by Thomson ISI Web of Knowledge (Requested, pending approval).
There will be a special track for papers describing work related with
fire prevention and combat, particularly using autonomous and
semi-autonomous systems.
== Venue ==
Torres Vedras is located about 50 kilometers from Lisbon, being
the territory of Torres Vedras populated by man since ancient times.
Here passed communities of collector hunters, farmers, blacksmiths
and later Greeks and Romans, as Rufus, one of many immortalized
names spelled in stone.
The village and the county grew, becoming a tourist destination,
especially from the early twentieth century. Since then, many elect
Torres Vedras as a destination, either in search of the spa or the
beach of Santa Cruz, renewing encounters permanently.
The same village amounted to town in 1979, witnessing a massive
urban growth.
In the municipality of Torres Vedras the agriculture (vineyards and
horticulture), the food processing and metallurgical industry and
the retail trade play a key role.
A promotional video of Torres Vedras could be viewed
through the following link:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec_XjJaNJVI.
Torres Vedras can be easily reached by bus or car from the International
Airport of Lisbon.
>From Lisbon by bus: You should take a bus that leave you close to
the place where the event takes place. Further information can be
found through the following link: http://www.rede-expressos.pt/default.aspx.
>From Lisbon by car: You should take the motorway A8 in the direction
towards Leiria getting out at exit 7 - Torres Vedras South.

The working language is English, only. Authors are invited to submit
original research contributions electronically, in PDF format, via
EasyChair:
Six pages in the standard IEEE format are allowed for each paper,
including figures, with up to two extra pages with an extra payment
per extra page.
Papers must be written in English following the standard IEEE guidelines:
Reviewing for ICARSC 2018 will be *double blind* so authors must
remove their names from the submitted papers, and should take
reasonable care not to indirectly disclose their identity. Three
program committee members will be assigned to review each paper.
Acceptance will be based on the paper's significance, technical quality,
clarity, relevance and originality.

Call for Participation: FREEBOTS Scientific Competition during Portuguese Robotics Open
********************************************************************************************************************************************
XVIII Portuguese Robotics Open, April 25-29, 2018, Torres Vedras, Portugal
collocated with the IEEE 2018 International Conference on Autonomous Robot Systems and Competitions (ICARSC 2018)
********************************************************************************************************************************************
Robot scientific competitions are a growing trend worldwide and particularly at the European level in the past few years,
leading to the set up of the European Robotics League. However, most of them tend to constrain participation to a specific
application domain.
The FREEBOTS competition aims at challenging the international community of R&D to present their latest research results
in the form of an *open* technical presentation and public demonstrations.
Participation must involve real, terrestrial, airborne or aquatic robots - mobile or not, multiple or single. Teams are assessed
by a panel of experts in the field of robotics with regards to technical and scientific achievement, potential application of
demonstrated robots, quality and success of the presentation and its impact on the general public.
FREEBOTS takes place on a regular basis since 2011 as a League of the Portuguese Robotics Open. The current official
rules of this League, as well as the track record of previous events, can be found in the competition web page:
http://www.isr.tecnico.ulisboa.pt/freebots
The next competition will take place in the XVI|| Portuguese Robotics Open, 25-29 April, 2018, Torres Vedras, Portugal.
URL: http://robotica2018.festivalrobotica.pt/en
You can register your team in the FREEBOTS league until 24 March 2018, following the steps in http://robotica2018.festivalrobotica.pt/en/registo-equipas

First time F1/10 competition takes place in Europe!
F1/10 is an international competition which exposes you to the
foundations of perception, planning and control in a fun, and
challenging environment. Participating teams race vehicles with similar
hardware specification and try to outsmart, and outpace each other in a
battle of algorithms. Many former F1/10 race engineers are now employed
in Tesla’s AutoPilot group, Nvidia’s DrivePX AV group, Ford’s AV group,
among others.
This year we will have more cars, higher speeds, and some wheel-to-wheel
autonomous racing action. Plus hardware prizes sponsored by Nvidia for
top teams.
We invite teams to fill out the race participation form
(https://goo.gl/forms/EH0XOil9lQaZiZrC3), indicating their commitment to
race at CPS Week.
The deadline to submit the participation form below is Friday, Feb 9,
2018
There will be a $200 registration fee, per participant to register for
the competition in April. (You do not have to pay the fee when you fill
the participation form below, but later, when you register to attend the
CPS week competition.)
Get started:
All instructions to build, drive, and race a 1/10 scale car are
available at http://f1tenth.org
Timeline:
Feb 26, 2018 - Webinar session for teams
Mar 23, 2018 - Qualification videos due.
Mar 29, 2018 - Detailed schedule released
April 10 - Practice session

General-Chair
Message-ID: <04E4D754-4B91-41F8-B923-1D84CE7B4A40@tecnico.ulisboa.pt>
Dear Portuguese colleague,
As you probably know, the International Congress on Robots and Intelligent Systems (IROS'2018 - www.iros2018.org) will be held in Madrid during October 1-5th, 2018. IROS is one of the biggest events in the world in robotics. It will gather for a week in the Madrid Municipal Conference Centre to more than 3.000 participants of near 50 countries of the world. It can be said, without any doubt, that it will be one of the most important technological forums held in southern Europe in the coming years.
This is why, we encourage Portuguese researchers in robotics and related technologies to submit their contributions in the field. Please remember that the deadline for the regular papers and videos is March 1st, 2018 and for workshops & tutorials is March 11th, 2018.
We also invite Portuguese research teams and R & D centres in robotics to participate actively in the event by presenting your recent results at the IROS2018 robotics fair, which is expected to bring together about 150 exhibitors. To facilitate this participation, we offer you special conditions that are detailed in the attached letter. We also offer special offers for the robotics spin-offs and start-ups.
We hope to see you in Madrid in the IROS,
Yours sincerely,
Carlos Balaguer
General-Chair IROS´2018
